How to Teach Children the Correct Spellings of a Word?

“It’s a poor mind that can think of only one way to spell a word!”

I remember the day when I was in class three, I was asked to Write A Story on bear in my English test. My teacher just verbally told us the topic. I began writing the story with full enthusiasm and completed my test before time. I was pretty sure about the fact that I would score good marks in my test but I was stunned when I saw my marks. I scored very low marks than I expected to get and it was because I wrote bare in place of bear. It happened just because both the words have same pronunciation and I got puzzled. After my story it could have really made you think how much important is to spell the words correctly.

Successful spelling is a thinking activity, not simply a mugging activity. It’s a multi sensory task to improve spelling and it requires incredible brain power, repetition and strategic think. The solution regarding spelling is learning patterns and strategies for complicated words. The problem occurs for the common spellings only when the teachers lay emphasis on the correct spellings of words through different ways. You must be thinking why correct spellings of words make so much of difference? It’s because if you misspell the words then it can create confusion, can change the sense of the words and sometimes it can be disgraceful too. The wrong spellings for many reasons like:

• Right spelling prevents misunderstanding

• Your credibility of writing increases when you write it error free

• It makes professional communication easy

• Spell checkers do not work at times

Parents and teachers often wonder how to teach correct spelling to the children. They just think if there could be any magic formula to teach the children correct spelling of every word at one shot. They just hunt for a best approach and some spelling program to inculcate the students. The one good way to teach the correct spelling is to children is to play with the words and the vocabulary. You should use three kinds of methods for the learner: auditory, visual and kinesthetic. In simple words allow kids to listen the correct spelling of the words, let them see the spellings, and have hands on experience. Always teach spellings in a manner that makes sense to the child. It is useless to teach words which the kids unlikely to use and have little meaning.

You should always incorporate the words from the kid’s science and social studies including words related to events and special calendar days. In this way you can prepare them for academics and improve their knowledge for spellings as well. You should always give the foundation for the spellings to your children means you should ensure that the kids understand the sounds made by consonants, short vowel sounds, long vowel sounds and diphthongs. Try to simplify the spelling whenever required and at the same time introduce words that have the same patterns. Try to jot the tricky words together. Make them familiarize with other similar sounding words at one time like perfect, concern, perfume and discern. Also show them the words that sound the same in one shot like turn, curtains and return. When the students remember the spelling of one word in the group and some of the words which belong to the same group, then it becomes easy to spell the tricky words.

…hit from behind… is a captivating story of how a seemingly innocent fishing trip turns into disaster. During a hot summer evening Jim and his son biked home from a fishing trip when a car hit Jim, almost costing his life. Near death, Jim describes the black room. This book is not simply about the accident; it delves deeper into what it means to have a relationship with God. “It’s not a matter of if we get hit from behind, it’s a matter of when.” All of us get ‘hit’ sooner or later. How do you handle the loss of control over your life? This short story is about you. If you’re not a Christian, it will stir thinking about God. If you are a Christian, it will stir thinking of the difference between giving your heart to Christ and giving your life to Him.Jim Heckel lives with his wife, Beth, in Loveland, Colorado. … hit from behind… is his first book. He has a long list of published papers and articles on topics, his specialty which is leadership. He has a son, Nathan, and a daughter, Aimee. While recovering from a near-fatal car-versus-bicycle accident, his daughter encouraged him to “write, write, write.” Heckel’s rehab afforded him time to reflect, pray and listen to her encouragement. He put on paper what he was processing internally.Heckel is an outdoors person and spends his free time fly-fishing, backpacking and hiking – and he’s back on the bicycle. He’s an active member of his church, works for a high-tech corporation and plays the drums when he’s happy. Heckel is passionate about humanitarian aid, serving as secretary for Think Humanity (thinkhumanity.org). His nickname is Frog. No one knows why, but he’s OK with that.

As Debby Boone and Rocky Balboa raised the hopes of a country in financial and political crisis, U.S. colleges sought to meet the needs of a growing and increasingly diverse student body while also responding to the public outcry for tangible results. Within English departments, especially in publicly funded institutions, writing instruction came under heightened scrutiny as politicians and taxpayers wondered “Why Johnny Can’t Write.” Scholars and teachers of writing responded as best they could to these pressures, conducting research on writing processes, developing new pedagogies better suited than skills-and-drills to new student populations, and slowly establishing themselves as disciplinary professionals within rapidly changing and often tumultuous institutions. A product of extensive archival research and numerous interviews, 1977: A CULTURAL MOMENT IN COMPOSITION examines the local, state, and national forces (economic, political, cultural, and academic) that fostered the development of the first-year composition program at one representative site, Penn State University, in the late 1970s. Sidebar commentaries from Stephen A. Bernhardt, Hugh Burns, Sharon Crowley, Lester Faigley, Janice Lauer, Elaine Maimon, Jasper Neel, and John Warnock-many of whom were just beginning in the field in 1977-enrich and complicate the story. A Story of To-day

A Story of To-day

$2.99

Let me tell you a story of To-Day, – very homely and narrow in its scope and aim. Not of the To-Day whose significance in the history of humanity only those shall read who will live when you and I are dead. We can bear the pain in silence, if our hearts are strong enough, while the nations of the earth stand afar off. I have no word of this To-Day to speak. I write from the border of the battlefield, and I find in it no theme for shallow argument or flimsy rhymes. The shadow of death has fallen on us; it chills the very heaven. No child laughs in my face as I pass down the street. Men have forgotten to hope, forgotten to pray; only in the bitterness of endurance, they say “in the morning, ‘Would God it were even!’ and in the evening, ‘Would God it were morning!’” Neither I nor you have the prophet’s vision to see the age as its meaning stands written before God. Those who shall live when we are dead may tell their children, perhaps, how, out of anguish and darkness such as the world seldom has borne, the enduring morning evolved of the true world and the true man. It is not clear to us. Hands wet with a brother’s blood for the Right, a slavery of intolerance, the hackneyed cant of men, or the blood-thirstiness of women, utter no prophecy to us of the great To-Morrow of content and right that holds the world.
