Tower Gunslinger

There are several projects underway to adapt the stories of Stephen King for film or television. We will cover the latest news, touch on projects that may be slowing, and throw a few that never made out of "development hell."

  1. Haven – Based on the novel The Colorado Kid, Haven is a small town in Maine, which has long been a haven for people with a wide range of supernatural abilities. The work television series premieres July 9, 2010 SyFy network.
  2. Bag of Bones – A novelist mourning the death of his wife at his residence moves summer and finds himself haunted. In February 2010 Mick Garris (The Shining, The decision, despair) said that this mini-series is expected to be final draft spring, early summer. "An announcement is expected soon on the network will air the miniseries.
  3. Pet Sematary – When a family pet is buried in the local pet cemetery, back to life. But get a little "different." Screenwriter Matt Greenberg (1408, Halloween H20) was recently hired to write the script.
  4. Home Delivery – Earthlings foreign infect with a plague of zombies. Residents of a small island off the coast of Maine are preparing to defend themselves as friends and relatives dead start to rise. Twin brothers John and Paul Buckholts acquired rights of the film and adapted short zombie story. Japanese director Ryuhei Kitamura will assume the project.
  5. Es – Seven children in a small Maine town are terrorized by a shape-shifting that takes the form of a clown. According to an article in March, 2009 Variety, Warner Brothers is moving with the new movie. Kevin McDonald will direct from a screenplay written by Dave Kajganich.
  6. Under the dome – A small whole town in Maine is suddenly trapped under a giant, invisible dome. In November 2009 it was reported that Steven Spielberg will produce the film as an event "Series" with a plan to shop around to television networks.
  7. From a Buick 8 – A car stored in a shed at the barracks State police in Statler, Pennsylvania is actually a portal between dimensions. Latest reports indicate that the script was approved by Stephen King and Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Poltergeist, Salem's Lot) has signed to direct. Funding is currently at a standstill.
  8. The Talisman – Young Jack Sawyer lights across country to save his dying mother. During his quest, back and forth between Earth and a parallel Earth called The Territories, where almost everyone Twinner has a "… except for Jack. Steven Spielberg was attached for several years to this project and planned to fit the 6 hour mini-series. Listed on Internet Movie Database as being in "pre-production" with a 2012 release date, but we can say this is dead in the water. Again.
  9. The Dark Tower – Stephen King's magnum opus of a gunman in another dimension, called Mid-World, traveling to a legendary tower said to be the nexus of all universes. JJ Abrams was hired to head for a while, but turned back on the rights of the king. In April 2010, it was reported that The Dark Tower can be adapted in a trilogy and a TV series. Negotiations are ongoing at this time. Akiva Goldsman is written with Ron Howard producing and directing.
  10. Cell – A cell phone signal becomes all who listen into murderers, like zombies. Eli Roth was originally attached to direct the film, but it seems that this plan has been dropped. The new plan is for a four-hour mini series to be written by John Harrison (Dune miniseries).
